EKO HOT BLOG reports that the union, during its 51st National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Kano State, condemned the persistent delay in salary payments to university staff, often weeks after other federal workers have been paid.
In a communique signed by SSANU National President, Mohammed Ibrahim, the union demanded harmonised salary disbursements across federal and state institutions, insisting that universities should not be left behind in the salary cycle.
SSANU also criticised the Federal Government’s failure to resume negotiations on the 2009 FG/SSANU Agreement, which has remained unresolved for over a decade. The union called for immediate resumption and conclusion of the renegotiation process to avoid another industrial dispute.
The allocation of ₦10 billion out of the recently released ₦50 billion Earned Allowance to non-teaching staff unions, including SSANU, was described as unjust and discriminatory. The union said the sharing formula violated the 2022 Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Joint Action Committee of NASU and SSANU.
SSANU further warned against the Federal Government’s pattern of ignoring signed agreements and warned it would no longer tolerate the neglect.
The union expressed concern over rising insecurity in states like Benue and Plateau, calling for a security overhaul and targeted youth empowerment to address violence.

On the economy, SSANU criticised recent reforms, including fuel subsidy removal, saying they have worsened hardship for Nigerians. The union called for social protection measures like cash transfers and food subsidies to cushion the impact.
