A stampede at the Gusau residence of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has claimed the life of one person and left six others injured.
Security sources confirmed the incident on Friday, noting that it occurred on Thursday evening when a large crowd gathered to welcome the minister.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the situation reportedly escalated around 7:30 pm as people surged forward, causing panic and triggering the deadly rush. Twenty three year old Khalifa Uzairu was confirmed dead on arrival at Farida General Hospital.
The injured victims include Ayuba Sani, Muhammadu Adams, Aliyu Aminu, Shaaban Hamisu and Inusa Musa Shehu. All six were taken to the hospital shortly after the incident and are said to be in stable condition. Security operatives have since cordoned off the area to restore calm.
Authorities have opened an investigation to determine the immediate cause of the stampede and whether crowd mismanagement or negligence contributed to the tragic event.
