Sultan Declares March 1 As Ramadan Begins After Moon Sighting

The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar III, has officially declared Saturday, March 1, 2025, as the commencement of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The announcement followed the confirmed sighting of the crescent moon on the evening of Friday, February 28, marking the 29th day of Shaban.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Speaking from his palace in Sokoto, the Sultan stated that reports of moon sightings were received from various parts of the country and duly verified by the National Moon Sighting Committee. Based on these confirmations, the Sultanate Council formally declared the beginning of Ramadan 1446.
In his address, the Sultan urged Nigerian Muslims to seize the spiritual significance of Ramadan by deepening their devotion through prayers, seeking Allah’s mercy, and offering supplications for the peace and prosperity of the nation. He also emphasized the importance of charity, encouraging the faithful to support the underprivileged, particularly during the fasting period.
As the Islamic community in Nigeria prepares for a month of fasting, prayers, and reflection, religious leaders have called on Muslims to uphold the core values of Ramadan, including patience, kindness, and generosity.
