EKO HOT BLOG reports that the blast occurred in the early hours of Saturday, sparking panic in the area and prompting an immediate response from emergency agencies, including security personnel and medical teams.
Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who visited the scene shortly after the explosion, confirmed the death toll and said no fewer than 15 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
“I received a distress call about a serious incident. Upon arrival, we discovered it was a suspected explosion—possibly linked to a military mortar bomb. Fifteen individuals were injured, and sadly, five have died,” Bakori told reporters.
He stated that the injured were promptly evacuated to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the explosion may have occurred as a result of mishandling or improper transportation of the explosive device. The police chief disclosed that the vehicle suspected to be involved in the incident may have originated from Yobe State.
“Initial findings suggest that the explosives were being transported by a trailer, though it is still unclear whether the transport was conducted by military personnel or private contractors,” Bakori added.
He noted that security agencies have commenced a full investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion and the ownership of the ordnance involved.

While urging residents to remain calm, the Commissioner assured that more details would emerge as the investigation progresses.
