President Bola Tinubu has extended congratulations to former military president General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida on his 84th birthday.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President celebrated with Babangida’s family, friends, and associates, noting that his eight-year tenure left a lasting impact on Nigeria’s social, economic, and political development.

President Tinubu commended General Babangida’s distinguished military career, which included key roles such as Instructor at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Commander of the 4 Reconnaissance Regiment, Commander of the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps, Director of Army Staff Duties and Plans, and Chief of Army Staff.
Highlighting Babangida’s leadership, the President recalled his administration’s significant investment in infrastructure, including the construction of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, as well as reforms that opened up and liberalised the Nigerian economy.
Under his government, important national institutions were established, including the State Security Service, National Intelligence Agency, Defence Intelligence Agency, and the Federal Road Safety Corps.

President Tinubu also acknowledged Babangida’s role in creating new states and relocating the nation’s capital from Lagos to Abuja, describing these initiatives as enduring legacies of his leadership.
Expressing gratitude for the former leader’s service and sacrifices, the President prayed that Almighty Allah grant him continued good health and renewed strength.
General Babangida, affectionately known as IBB, served as Nigeria’s military president from 1985 to 1993.
