The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has said the administration of President Bola Tinubu has recorded enough achievements to campaign for a second term in the 2027 general elections.
Akpabio made the statement on Monday when members of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions, TETFund and NELFund, led by its chairman, Senator Dandutse Mohammed, visited him at his residence in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Akpabio’s Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, the Senate President said the Tinubu administration inherited a difficult economic situation when it assumed office in 2023.
He claimed that 27 state governments were unable to meet their salary and pension obligations at the time, but argued that the situation had improved under Tinubu’s economic policies.
Akpabio said the administration had introduced reforms and initiatives that, in his view, would give the APC enough material to present to Nigerians during the 2027 campaign.
He said the government had made progress in areas including the economy, agriculture, security, education and fiscal policy, while accusing opposition politicians of deliberately refusing to acknowledge the administration’s achievements.
The Senate President also expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure re-election in 2027, arguing that voters would assess the records of the current administration against those of its political opponents.
Akpabio further defended the performance of the 10th National Assembly, saying the Senate had enacted legislation designed to improve the welfare of Nigerians.
He pledged that the legislature would continue working with the executive arm of government to advance the administration’s programmes and policies.
He also urged lawmakers who may not return to the Senate after the 2027 elections to remain committed to the APC and support Tinubu’s administration.
Earlier, Mohammed explained that the committee’s visit was part of its constitutional oversight responsibilities and an opportunity to engage with the Senate leadership.
He commended Akpabio’s support for legislation affecting tertiary education and highlighted the roles of TETFund and NELFund in improving access to education and funding infrastructure.
Mohammed said the committee was in Akwa Ibom to inspect and sensitise stakeholders on TETFund projects and other educational interventions across the state.
He described education as a critical component of national development and thanked the Senate President for supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening the sector.
