President Bola Tinubu on Monday held a closed-door meeting with Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, and former Governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting is taking place against the backdrop of the lingering crisis within the Benue chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where Governor Alia and supporters of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, are locked in a struggle for control of the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It also follows recent political developments in the state, with Suswam’s name emerging as one of the key political figures expected to influence the state’s political landscape ahead of the next election cycle.

While it could not be independently confirmed whether the Benue political crisis formed part of the discussions, the timing of the meeting has fuelled speculation that the Presidency may be seeking to ease tensions, reconcile key stakeholders and strengthen unity within the state’s political class.
As of the time of filing this report, the Presidency had not issued an official statement on the outcome of the meeting.
