President Bola Tinubu on Sunday received two chieftains of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rufai Hanga and Senator Kabiru Gaya, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, ahead of their planned defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Eko Hot Blog reports that the meeting was facilitated by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, who led the two Kano politicians to the Presidential Villa.

The visit comes as both Hanga and Gaya are reportedly preparing to formally join the APC next week, marking another political realignment in Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Hanga is said to have decided to leave the NDC after losing the party’s Kano Central Senatorial ticket and the deputy governorship slot. He was also reportedly dissatisfied after not being considered for any position by the party’s vice presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Similarly, Gaya, who sought the NDC’s Kano South Senatorial ticket, failed to secure the nomination after the party adopted a consensus candidate backed by Kwankwaso’s camp.
Their meeting with President Tinubu follows an earlier engagement with the National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, as consultations ahead of their formal defection continue.
