EKO HOT BLOG reports that Idris emphasized that similar incidents have occurred in past administrations and should not be tied to President Bola Tinubu’s current reforms.
The Minister expressed his heartfelt sympathy for the families of the victims, acknowledging the gravity of the events. He noted that the tragedies highlight the urgent need for proper crowd management during charitable activities, which often attract large gatherings.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and all those affected by these unfortunate incidents,” Idris said.
While recognizing the good intentions of organizers who aim to ease the burden on vulnerable communities, Idris urged all individuals and organizations planning similar events to heed the directives issued by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. The Minister stressed the importance of collaborating with law enforcement agencies to ensure effective crowd control and security measures.
“The collaboration with the police and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is vital to safeguarding lives and preventing such incidents from escalating into greater tragedies,” he added.
Idris further clarified that such tragic occurrences are not new and have happened in previous years, predating the current administration. He strongly refuted any attempts to link these incidents to the President’s reforms, calling such claims unfounded and misleading.
“The reforms are aimed at repositioning the Nigerian economy for long-term growth and improving the lives of all Nigerians, especially the vulnerable, without causing distress,” he stated.
Concluding his remarks, Idris called for a collective responsibility among Nigerians to ensure that the holiday season remains peaceful, full of goodwill, and free from preventable tragedies.
