The postponement of the census provided an opportunity for further improvement, particularly in transitioning to a digital census.
Eze emphasized that accurate census data would aid President Tinubu in addressing socio-economic issues resulting from the removal of fuel subsidy.
He updated the media on the preparations for the census, including enumeration area demarcation, training of field staff, and procurement of digital devices.
The commission aimed to safeguard the resources invested and prevent the need to start from scratch when conducting the census.
Eze highlighted the importance of census data for national planning, development goals, poverty reduction strategies, and policy evaluation. He regretted that the last census in Nigeria was held in 2006, and subsequent attempts were unsuccessful.
The forthcoming census aimed to rectify this and provide up-to-date and accurate data for informed decision-making.
The Commission had conducted extensive advocacy and publicity campaigns, including social media engagement, to ensure census awareness and encourage participation.
