The Federal Government has reduced the recently introduced textbook assessment fees and directed that publishers who paid the previous charges be refunded.

Under the revised directive, the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) has been instructed to implement the new fee structure and process refunds for publishers who had already paid under the earlier rates.
The Federal Government said the review is expected to ease the financial burden on publishers, encourage greater participation in the textbook evaluation process and help keep educational materials affordable for schools, students and parents.
The policy reversal followed consultations between the Federal Ministry of Education and key stakeholders in the publishing industry.
The ministry said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining quality assurance in textbook approval while supporting the growth of Nigeria’s education and publishing sectors.
