-
Senior Hamas political leader Salah al-Bardaweel and his wife were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Khan Younis, Gaza, according to Hamas officials.
-
The strike comes days after Israel resumed heavy bombardments, accusing Hamas of violating a ceasefire; Hamas denies the claims and blames Israel for the truce collapse.

Over 49,500 Palestinians have been killed since the conflict escalated in October 2023, amid widespread destruction and mounting humanitarian concerns.
An Israeli air strike in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, has killed senior Hamas political leader Salah al-Bardaweel, a Hamas official said early Sunday.
Local residents said Bardaweel, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, was killed alongside his wife when their tent was struck by an Israeli missile while they were praying.
Israeli authorities have not commented on the strike.
Israel resumed major air strikes on Gaza on Tuesday, accusing Hamas of breaching a ceasefire agreement that had been in effect since January 19.

The truce, mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, had brought nearly two months of relative calm. Hamas denied violating the deal and instead accused Israel of being the party that broke the ceasefire.
According to Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry, 32 Palestinians were killed in various parts of the enclave over the past 24 hours.
The Israeli military’s renewed campaign follows the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attack on southern Israel that left around 1,200 people dead and 251 taken hostage.
In response, Israel launched a military operation in Gaza, which has since claimed over 49,500 Palestinian lives, according to the health ministry, and caused extensive destruction across the territory.
