Wike made the clarification amid reports alleging that Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, was allegedly sidelined during the screening process while politicians believed to be loyal to the FCT minister were reportedly favoured.
Speaking during an inspection tour of ongoing infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory, Wike dismissed questions regarding the APC screening exercise.
“I am not a member of the APC, so I don’t know what is happening in their screening. Even if they publish the results, why would I comment? I don’t know the reasons they have,” he said.
The former Rivers State governor also maintained that he would not speak on matters outside his direct involvement.
“What pertains to me is what I will talk about, not what does not concern me. I’m not a native doctor, neither am I a prophet,” Wike added.
On the evolving political dynamics in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general election, the minister said his political coalition in the state would be guided by strategic electoral considerations rather than rigid party affiliations.
“That is the essence of the rainbow coalition in Rivers State. We will look at where we have strength, compare notes and vote accordingly,” he stated.
During the inspection tour, Wike visited several road and bridge projects nearing completion in Abuja and expressed satisfaction with the pace of work being carried out by contractors.
According to him, contractors handling some of the projects assured the Federal Capital Territory Administration that pending works, including installation of streetlights, would be completed before the end of May.
“We are very happy. They promised that before the end of the month, they would finish the streetlights,” Wike said.
He also disclosed that the Dutse-Alhaji to M5 road project was progressing steadily.
The minister further revealed that the project being executed by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation had largely been completed, with only streetlight installation remaining.
“That road is already completed, and the contractor, CCCC, has promised that within the next 10 days, they will complete the streetlights. We are very comfortable and happy,” he added.
