According to the spokesperson of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, preliminary findings indicate that the tanker driver, allegedly speeding, rammed into the dispatch rider, leading to his instant death.
Taofiq said officials of LASTMA responded promptly, preventing the situation from escalating after a group of angry dispatch riders attacked the tanker driver.
He explained that the operatives acted swiftly to rescue the driver from the mob and handed him over to the Lagos State Ambulance Service for urgent medical treatment.
“LASTMA officers arrived quickly at the scene and their intervention prevented a breakdown of law and order. The tanker driver, who sustained serious injuries, was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital,” he said.

Security operatives from the Alausa Police Station were also deployed to restore calm and disperse the crowd.
Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and called for greater caution among motorists.
He warned against reckless driving and overspeeding, stressing that such behaviour remains a leading cause of road accidents.
“This incident highlights the urgent need for all road users to be more vigilant and responsible,” he said.
Authorities confirmed that the tanker and the damaged motorcycle have been handed over to the police, while investigations are ongoing.
