On the eve of his return to the White House, President-elect Donald Trump pledged to unleash a sweeping wave of executive actions immediately after taking office, promising to govern with “historic speed and strength.”

Addressing an electrified crowd at a “Victory Rally” in Washington, DC, Trump previewed his agenda and celebrated his November electoral win.

Trump vowed to use his executive powers extensively, pledging to reverse Biden-era policies, initiate mass deportations, slash environmental regulations, and eliminate diversity programs. “We put America first, and it all starts tomorrow,” he declared to the cheering crowd, adding, “You’re going to have a lot of fun watching television tomorrow.”

The president-elect is expected to sign over 200 executive directives on Monday, including legally binding orders and proclamations. He outlined plans to:

  • Expand artificial intelligence initiatives.
  • Form the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge).
  • Declassify records on the 1963 assassination of John F. Kennedy.
  • Direct the military to create an Iron Dome missile defence system.
  • Repeal diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies in the military.
  • End transgender participation in female sports categories.
  • Return control of education policies to individual states.

“Every radical and foolish executive order of the Biden administration will be repealed within hours,” Trump stated. Experts warn, however, that the sheer volume of actions may overwhelm the courts as many will likely face legal challenges.

Trump reiterated his focus on immigration, a cornerstone of his campaign, promising immediate steps to deport millions of undocumented migrants. Analysts, however, highlight the logistical and financial challenges such operations would entail, potentially costing billions.

Additionally, Trump is expected to issue pardons for individuals convicted for their involvement in the January 6 Capitol riots, referring to them as “hostages” and assuring supporters they would be “very happy” with his decisions.

Held at the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC, the rally featured a performance by Kid Rock and appearances by notable figures including TV host Megyn Kelly, actor Jon Voight, and senior adviser Stephen Miller. Elon Musk, who Trump announced will co-lead the newly established Department of Government Efficiency alongside entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, also delivered a brief speech.

Trump’s family, including Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Lara Trump, joined him on stage. Despite bitterly cold weather, thousands of supporters flocked to the capital, braving temperatures of -6°C (22°F). Due to the poor weather, Monday’s inauguration ceremony has been moved indoors to the Capitol Rotunda for the first time in 40 years.

Following his swearing-in, Trump plans to join supporters at the Capital One Arena for a modified parade and deliver an inaugural address focused on unity, strength, and “fairness.” Franklin Graham, son of renowned evangelist Billy Graham, will give the invocation, stating Trump has emerged stronger from past challenges and will be “a much better president.”

Trump concluded the rally with a promise to restore the country’s path, saying, “You’re going to see executive orders that are going to make you extremely happy.”
