The vehicle smashed through the entrance of Temple Israel and continued down a hallway inside the building before catching fire.

Sheriff Bouchard said another security guard confronted the suspect and exchanged gunfire with him. The suspect was later confirmed dead, although officials have not yet clarified exactly how he died.
Authorities reported that no other people were injured during the incident.
Police are currently securing the area and searching for possible explosives as a precaution. However, Bouchard reassured residents that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
“We want people to take a breath,” the sheriff said, adding that the situation had been contained and there were no additional victims.

The attack occurred in West Bloomfield Township, a suburb located less than 30 minutes from Detroit. The town has a population of just over 66,000 residents.
The Detroit metropolitan area is home to a significant Jewish population. According to the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, about 71,000 Jewish residents live across the region.
Temple Israel, founded in 1941, is considered the largest Reform synagogue in the United States. The congregation includes around 3,500 families, representing roughly 12,000 members.
In a statement shared online, the synagogue confirmed that everyone at the facility was safe, including children attending its early education programme.

“All 140 students in our Susan and Harold Loss Early Childhood Center, along with our staff, teachers, and security personnel, are accounted for and safe,” the statement said.
Temple Israel also praised its security team for confronting the attacker and preventing further harm. The synagogue said teachers followed safety protocols to keep the children calm and protected during the incident.
The statement also thanked local law enforcement and a nearby country club that helped shelter staff, parents and children after the attack.
Authorities have not yet released details about the suspect’s identity, possible motives, or the weapons involved.
However, law enforcement sources told CBS News that the suspect reportedly exited the vehicle carrying a rifle before being shot by security guards.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump briefly addressed the incident while speaking at the White House during an unrelated event.

Trump said he had been briefed on the attack and expressed support for the Jewish community in Michigan.
“We want to send our love to the Michigan Jewish community and all the people in the Detroit area following the attack on the Jewish synagogue,” he said, describing the incident as “a terrible thing” and promising that authorities would determine exactly what happened.
Investigations by federal and local authorities, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, are ongoing.
