UAE President to Visit Nigeria After Bilateral Talks with Tinubu

President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has accepted an invitation from Nigerian President Bola Tinubu to visit Nigeria this year.
Tinubu extended the invitation during their meeting on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025.

At the same time, Nigerians living in Cote d’Ivoire have urged President Tinubu to address the poor treatment of Nigerians in Ivorian prisons. Many detainees are said to be innocent but remain locked up due to

issues like lack of proper documents or extortion by local groups.
President Tinubu was in Abu Dhabi as a guest of the UAE President to attend the Sustainability Week, which promotes global efforts to tackle challenges like climate change and energy crises. Tinubu presented Nigeria’s views on these issues and praised the UAE for organizing the event.
During their meeting, Sheikh Mohamed thanked Tinubu for attending and expressed interest in stronger economic ties with Nigeria. Tinubu shared that his government’s economic reforms are working, with foreign investors showing renewed confidence in Nigeria.
Tinubu was accompanied by key officials, including the Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar; Finance Minister, Wale Edun; and National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Meanwhile, in Abuja, Davidson Ogbu, spokesperson for the Nigerian community in Cote d’Ivoire, called on the government to help Nigerians suffering in Ivorian prisons.
He said many are sick and cannot afford to settle their cases, leaving them stuck in poor conditions. He added that some were unjustly detained due to extortion and need immediate help to avoid worsening health and even loss of life.

Ogbu urged the Nigerian government to work with Ivorian authorities to secure the release of these prisoners and improve conditions for those still serving sentences. He highlighted the urgency of the situation, emphasizing the need for justice and better support for Nigerians abroad.
