EKO HOT BLOG reports that Vishwash, 40, is believed to be the lone survivor of the crash, which occurred shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad on Thursday, killing all 242 passengers and crew onboard, including 53 British citizens. At least 24 others were reported dead on the ground after the aircraft plunged into a student canteen.
Speaking to AFP outside the family home in central Leicester, a cousin said, “We are happy Vishwash has been saved, but on the other hand we are just heartbroken about Ajay.”
The two brothers, well-known in Leicester’s Indian community, co-owned a confectionery business and had just returned from a holiday in India. Their family had gathered to pick them up at Gatwick Airport when the news of the crash broke.
Shortly after the incident, Vishwash, who had been seated in 11A, phoned his father from the crash site. “Our plane has crashed,” he said, bleeding and shaken. “I am just waiting for my brother… try to find Ajay.” Despite his injuries, he was reportedly more concerned about his sibling, who was seated in the same row but at the other end.
Images of Vishwash walking away from the Boeing 787 wreckage have gone viral, making headlines across UK and Indian media. He is currently receiving treatment for burns and other injuries. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited him in hospital on Friday.

Relatives continue efforts to fly to Ahmedabad to confirm Ajay’s status and mourn their loss.
