In a tragic incident at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), a 200-level Mass Communication student reportedly took his own life due to financial constraints that prevented him from fulfilling his academic needs.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the deceased, whose identity has been withheld, committed suicide when his roommates were away for other engagements. Medical professionals later confirmed his death.

Sources familiar with the student indicated that he had been experiencing significant financial hardships, which directly impacted his ability to pursue his education effectively.
In a desperate attempt to end his suffering, he consumed poisonous substances at the Tanke area of the state, ensuring that no one could intervene or prevent his actions.
The student left behind a poignant suicide note, detailing his reasons for taking his own life and pleading for forgiveness from his friends and family.

According to his peers, the deceased had maintained a strong academic standing with a Cumulative Grade Point Aggregate of 4.5.
To support him, fellow students had been pooling together funds and food to ensure that he could continue to excel academically.
However, these efforts were not enough to overcome the overwhelming financial difficulties he faced.
The student was being sponsored by his mother, a widow, who now has to bear the devastating loss of her son amidst already challenging circumstances.
Said a source: The deceased committed suicide “due to alleged inability to meet his financial obligations because of the current economic situation in the country.”
The source added that the unfortunate young man lost his father a few years ago, leaving his retired school teacher mother with the responsibility for his academic obligations.
