The United States has placed a $25,000 bounty on Nigerian citizen Olalekan Abimbola Olawusi, wanted for the alleged murder of his infant son.

U.S. authorities reported that Olawusi is now among the country’s 15 most-wanted fugitives, as confirmed by Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Don Freeman.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Olawusi, a resident of Rhode Island, was initially charged with first-degree child abuse after his three-month-old son was discovered with extensive injuries on April 3, 2017.

Emergency personnel transported the infant to the hospital, where doctors identified 18 separate injuries, including skull and rib fractures, indicating prolonged abuse.

Although placed on life support, the child succumbed to his injuries six months later, resulting in an upgraded murder charge.

Freeman explained that Olawusi was arraigned on April 20, 2017, but fled after being released the same day. Investigations later revealed he had left the U.S. on June 20, 2017, with reports indicating possible assistance from family members in Nigeria.

The U.S. Marshals Service has issued a public appeal for information on Olawusi’s whereabouts, describing him as a potential threat to children and the public.
