EKO HOT BLOG reports that Speaking during Politics Today, a programme aired on Channels Television, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, defended Tinubu, stressing that the court’s judgment contained nothing new beyond what is already publicly available.
Judge Beryl Howell of the United States District Court, in a ruling dated April 8, 2025, directed both the FBI and DEA to search for and process non-exempt records in response to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests filed by American legal transparency advocate Aaron Greenspan.
Greenspan, the founder of PlainSite, had filed 12 FOIA requests between 2022 and 2023, seeking information about a Chicago drug ring from the early 1990s. His requests specifically mentioned President Tinubu and three others: Lee Andrew Edwards, Mueez Abegboyega Akande, and Abiodun Agbele.
However, Bwala insisted that nothing new would emerge from the records being sought. According to him, those familiar with the judgment would realize that the ruling merely sets a May 2 date for further discussions on the validity of any unreleased documents.
“With respect to the FBI and DEA, the court said if you think there are documents that are yet to be released, come on the 2nd of May and talk to us so we can determine whether or not it’s a valid application before the court,” Bwala explained.
He added, “There is nothing new in the court’s ruling. Everything has been in the public domain for ages. But the opposition, lacking better ideas, is clinging to this in an attempt to mislead the public.”

Bwala urged Nigerians to disregard attempts to stir controversy, saying the move was simply meant to create unnecessary conversations.
