The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has announced that the Lagos State University (LASU) Epe campus will soon benefit from a 5 Megawatt (MW) renewable energy mini-grid project as part of the Federal Government’s plan to provide stable electricity for tertiary institutions across the country.
Dr. Alausa made the disclosure on Wednesday while commissioning the Olatunji Bello Hall, a 550-seater auditorium donated by philanthropist Dr. Olatunji Bello.

He said the power project would guarantee energy security for LASU’s Epe campus and strengthen its capacity for research, innovation and academic excellence.
While delivering his remarks, Dr. Alausa commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his extensive infrastructure development, commitment to excellence, and prioritization of education as a foundation for societal growth.
He equally praised Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat for his steadfast support to the administration and his contributions to governance in Lagos State.
The Minister also recognized other dignitaries present at the event, including members of the Lagos State Executive Council, the Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, lawmakers, and local government chairmen, appreciating their collaborative role in driving development.

Earlier, LASU Vice-Chancellor Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello appealed for more government support to address infrastructure challenges, particularly in the area of power supply.
Dr. Alausa’s announcement of the 5MW project was seen as a direct response to this request.
He further lauded philanthropist Dr. Olatunji Bello for his generosity, describing the new auditorium as a “lasting legacy and a shining example of purposeful leadership.”
He called on alumni, corporate organizations, and other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the gesture by investing in education to drive national transformation.
