WAFU Zone B Qualifiers: Flying Eagles Beat Cote d’Ivoire, Qualify For Semi-finals

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles staged a comeback to secure a 2-1 victory over Côte d’Ivoire in their second match of the 2024 WAFU Zone B qualifiers in Togo on Thursday.

After suffering a 1-0 defeat to Burkina Faso in their opening game, the Flying Eagles faced a must-win situation to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Despite falling behind early, goals from Kparobo Arierhi and Clinton Jephta turned the tide, sealing the crucial win for the defending WAFU Zone B champions.

With this result, the Flying Eagles advance to face Niger Republic in the semi-finals on Sunday.

The team previously claimed the 2022 WAFU Zone B title, beating Benin Republic 3-1 in the final held in Niger Republic.

The 2024 WAFU Zone B tournament also serves as the qualifying event for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with the semi-finalists at AFCON 2025 set to qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.
