EKO HOT BLOG reports that the clarification was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Edun tendered his resignation on Monday, citing health concerns. The former minister, who turned 70 the same day, reportedly submitted his resignation letter expressing gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve.
“It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Under your leadership, Nigeria has emerged stronger, more resilient and more internationally respected.
“I wish you and the administration every success in the future,” Edun stated in his letter.
The presidency disclosed that Edun also paid a valedictory visit to the President at the State House before the announcement of his exit, holding discussions before stepping away to focus on private engagements.
Onanuga further confirmed that Dangiwa also resigned his position, thanking the President for the opportunity to serve on the Federal Executive Council.
The statement highlighted Edun’s extensive career in finance, including his service as Lagos State Commissioner for Finance between 1999 and 2004 and his roles in global financial institutions such as the World Bank and Stanbic IBTC.
President Tinubu commended both former ministers for their contributions to the administration’s economic reform programme and wished them success in their future endeavours.
He also urged the new Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, to build on ongoing reforms and drive fiscal and economic policies with renewed focus and innovation.

The presidency added that a new ministerial nominee for housing, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, will soon be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.
