WHO Provides Infection Prevention, Nutrition Aid to Borno Amid Health Crisis

The World Health Organization (WHO) has donated infection prevention materials, nutritional supplies, and other essential commodities to the Borno State Government to enhance healthcare delivery.
EKO HOT BLOG reports during the handover ceremony in Maiduguri on Friday, WHO’s Country Representative, Dr. Walter Kazadi Mulombo, stated that the donation aims to improve access to quality healthcare services, particularly for vulnerable women and children.

Mulombo, represented by WHO’s Emergency Manager in the Northeast, Kumshida Balami, emphasized that the donation reflects WHO’s ongoing commitment to strengthening Borno State’s healthcare system, with a focus on child protection and nutrition.
He noted that the initiative was part of WHO’s broader support strategy, particularly as the state continues to grapple with humanitarian challenges caused by years of insurgency.
Commending the state government and the Ministry of Health and Human Services, Balami praised their efforts in addressing health crises and improving service delivery.
Receiving the items, Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Prof. Baba Malum Gana, stated that the donation would help combat communicable diseases like cholera and acute malnutrition, especially in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.
Prof. Gana highlighted the state’s ongoing challenges, including the impact of recent floods and over a decade of insurgency, which have significantly contributed to high rates of acute malnutrition, particularly among children.

3,500 rotation cards
300 environmental cleaning tools
300 personal protective equipment (PPE)
300 sharp-object injury prevention tools

WHO reaffirmed its dedication to strengthening health systems in conflict-affected regions, ensuring that Borno State residents, especially vulnerable groups, have better access to essential medical services.
