Why Ladies Without Male Companion Aren’t Allowed In Our Restaurant – Harzoyka

India restaurant, Harzoyka, located in Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria, has revealed the reason behind its policy of not granting access to female customers who come to the restaurant without opposite sex.

Harzoyka was in the eye of the storm over the weekend after  accusation of discrimination against its female customers went viral.

CNN reporter, Aisha Salaudeen, had taken to her twitter page to make public the discriminatory treatment meted out to her by the restaurant.

She tweeted, “I got kicked out of Harzoyka restaurant in GRA Ikeja today because according to them, they have a new policy – no women allowed. This is a restaurant I’ve visited multiple times in the past few years

“When I pressed about why I was been hushed out, I was told that to eat in there I had to be chaperoned by a man. I was too stunned to comment, I cannot have a meal because I’m a woman? @MsAdeola and I had to eat somewhere else.” Salaudeen tweeted

Reacting to the accusation, Harzoyka said the demand for a male companion before a lady can be allowed into the restaurant is a policy that will remain regardless of the government’s stance.

Harzoyka told AllNews that female customers occupy spaces for two to three hours in the restaurant, ordering only bottled water or a drink, while high-profile customers won’t get seats when they arrive. The Manager of Harzoyka, who simply identified himself as Dipah, said that’s why the company initiated the new policy.

He said Harzoyka plays host to influential and high profile guests that are always disturbed by the ladies, and the high profile guests don’t like it, “some people (high profile) like girls, some don’t like (the) girls.”

Dipah said he had explained to some female customers about it, but they “always talk rubbish” to him. AllNews learnt the company had “had enough”, hence the discriminatory policy which has angered Nigerians online.

Note that in Nigeria, both men and women are allowed to dine in restaurants alone without accompanying each other.

Harzoyka Don’t Care About What Government Thinks
Dipah told AllNews that the policy will remain forever, and when asked about what government might feel about Harzoyka’s new controversial policy, Dipah said he doesn’t care, “I don’t care about that one.”

He added that “they are disturbing my customers, so I won’t allow it.”

According to Harzoyka, if female customers want to use their restaurant, the ladies will have to come to the outlet with a male companion.
