Afrobeats star Wizkid has reacted publicly to the growing online feud between his fanbase and Seun Kuti, the Afrobeat singer and son of legendary musician Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the tension began last week after Seun Kuti accused fans of Wizkid, popularly called Wizkid FC, of disrespecting his late father’s legacy by drawing comparisons between Fela and the Grammy-winning singer.

On Tuesday night, Wizkid appeared to weigh in on the controversy via a series of Instagram story posts that quickly sparked widespread reactions across social media.
The singer first reposted a video of a woman speaking in Yoruba, in which she criticised Seun Kuti and argued that Wizkid’s global success has helped introduce Fela’s music to a younger generation.
In the video, the woman questioned Seun’s conduct and suggested that contemporary artists like Wizkid have kept Afrobeat relevant internationally.
Shortly after, Wizkid escalated the situation by making direct posts aimed at Seun Kuti. In the messages, the singer used harsh language, dismissed Seun’s criticisms, and made bold claims about his own status and influence in comparison to Fela’s legacy.
The posts triggered mixed reactions online, with some fans applauding Wizkid for standing his ground, while others criticised the tone of the exchange and called for restraint and respect, especially given Fela Kuti’s historic role in African music and activism.
As of the time of reporting, Seun Kuti has not issued an official response to Wizkid’s latest comments, but the exchange has continued to fuel debate about legacy, respect and generational influence within Afrobeat culture.
