Former Kaduna senator, Shehu Sani, has said he almost got suspended from the Senate in 2018 for revealing how much senators earn.
In a post on social media on Thursday, Sani said he would have faced a six-month suspension if not for the intervention of then-Senate President Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.

“When I publicly shared the salaries and allowances of senators, I was almost suspended for six months. But divine intervention, along with Saraki and Ekweremadu’s help, saved me,” he wrote.

Back in March 2018, Sani revealed that each senator received ₦13.5 million monthly as running costs, plus ₦200 million for constituency projects. His colleagues were not happy with him because such details are usually kept secret.
Sani’s statement comes after the Senate recently suspended Kogi Central senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, for six months. Her suspension followed a report by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.
