EKO HOT BLOG reports that several corps members have started receiving credit alerts reflecting the increased stipend, marking the resolution of prolonged delays that had left many in limbo.

This development comes just days after the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, assured Nigerians in an interview on Channels TV that the backlog of payments would be cleared by the end of March.

For months, the disbursement of the revised allowance faced setbacks due to budgetary constraints and bureaucratic hurdles. In a statement, Olawande clarified that while President Bola Tinubu had approved the increment, the payment process required formal budgetary inclusion before funds could be released.

“I have explained this several times. Some people say I always mention it’s a process, and it is seriously a process. It was not in the budget when the president announced it. Some agencies and parastatals need to have their salaries included in the budget before anything can be done or paid out,” the minister explained.

Olawande further assured corps members that all outstanding payments would be settled. Addressing concerns over outgoing corps members who served under the old stipend, he confirmed that their backlogs would also be cleared.

“You saw the new DG when they asked him, what about those who are going out now? Are they going to receive their backlogs? He said, ‘We have your account details; we will put it (the allowance) through.’ You may not like to hear this, but I can tell you the payment will happen at the end of this month,” he stated.

The confirmation of payments has brought relief to corps members who had grown skeptical after facing months of broken promises from the government.
