The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on Nigerians to show greater respect and commitment to the country’s national symbols as the nation marks National Ordinance Day today.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the agency’s Director-General, Lanre Issa-Onilu, spoke in Abuja, emphasizing that the National Flag, Coat of Arms, National Anthem, and other emblems represent Nigeria’s unity and identity.

Issa-Onilu stressed that honoring these symbols is both a civic duty and a display of patriotism. “Respect for our national symbols is respect for Nigeria itself,” he stated.
He also explained that Nigeria observes National Ordinance Day every September 16 to commemorate the handover of its national symbols at independence.

He urged citizens to use today as a chance to reflect on and live out the values of unity, discipline, and service. this call comes as the NOA intensifies its campaign to instill a sense of national pride.
The NOA also encouraged schools, communities, and government institutions to make respect for national symbols a part of their daily practices to help deepen national identity and strengthen social cohesion.
The agency has reaffirmed its commitment to continuously educate citizens and collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure that every Nigerian understands the importance of upholding the dignity of the country’s symbols.
