Presiding over the matter, Chief Magistrate Kevin Mbanongun declined to take their pleas, citing lack of jurisdiction, and adjourned the case until 17 December for further mention.
According to the prosecution led by Inspector Godwin Ato, the case was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters in Obusa Ainu (Oju) to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Makurdi for deeper investigation.

Inspector Ato explained that the case began after the deceased’s husband, Mr Patrick Ogebe, reported his wife and motorcycle missing on 20 September, following his return from a trip to Oju.
A community search led to the recovery of a CG125 motorcycle inside Onah’s house in Anwo. Ogebe further alleged that Onyike and Udama had previously issued death threats against him, while Onalwo reportedly heard the woman screaming for help during the attack but failed to raise an alarm.
During interrogation, Onah allegedly implicated Victor and Agbo, claiming they brought the stolen motorcycle to his house.
Subsequent police investigation led to the discovery of a shallow grave in a nearby forest, where the woman’s body was exhumed and taken to the General Hospital Mortuary in Oju for autopsy.
The prosecution stated that the offences contravene Sections 97, 288, 398, and 222 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue State (2004).
