EKO HOT BLOG reports that his death was confirmed on Sunday in a statement released by Prince Adekunle Famodun in Osogbo. According to the family, the monarch passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025, after a brief illness.
Oba Famodun was installed as the Owa of Igbajo on November 24, 2022, by former governor Adegboyega Oyetola. His ascension to the throne later faced political challenges after a white paper issued by the PDP-led administration questioned his installation.
However, the Osun State High Court reinstated him on January 30, 2025, affirming the legitimacy of his appointment.
The royal family said the late monarch dedicated his reign to promoting unity and development across Igbajoland. They described him as a leader whose peaceful nature and commitment to communal progress strengthened social harmony and inspired confidence among residents.
His passing comes months after the Osun government announced a new Owa, Prince Ademola Makinde, a decision that drew protests from the APC leadership, who argued the kingship matter was still before the court.

The stool had initially become vacant in 2022 after the PDP government removed the previously installed monarch, sparking a prolonged dispute rooted in policy changes between successive administrations.
