EKO HOT BLOG reports that the governor spoke on Saturday at the combined 37th and 38th convocation of Rivers State University in Nkpolu Oroworukwu, Port Harcourt. He acknowledged the challenges confronting the institution and linked some of them to what he called the temporary interruption of democracy in the state.
“Like you said, a report was given to us. But you all know what happened in the life of our administration. It is only by the special grace of God, the special favour from Mr President, that we are standing here still as the ones presiding over the affairs of Rivers State,” Fubara said.
Responding to concerns raised by the university management, he assured stakeholders that his administration would resume full responsibilities and promptly address the issues highlighted during the ceremony. He listed improved infrastructure, enhanced security, and better welfare for staff and students as key funding priorities.
Fubara added that satellite campuses outside Port Harcourt which are currently struggling would receive focused attention in 2026. “We will continue to fulfil our financial obligations to the university, ensuring improved infrastructure as well as the security and welfare of staff and students. Education remains the most vital investment for national development,” he said.
The governor praised the steady growth of the institution and commended its commitment to quality education, intellectual development, and leadership training. He encouraged the university leadership to intensify research and innovation aimed at addressing socio economic challenges in Rivers State and across the country.
He congratulated the 13,242 graduates who received first degrees, diplomas, and certificates. He also thanked parents, guardians, the Governing Council, and staff for their role in preparing the students for graduation.

In his message to the graduates, Fubara urged them to embrace emerging opportunities with integrity, hard work, and resilience. “As you step into the future, let integrity, hard work, and honesty guide you. Cherish the sacrifices made for your education and live a life of purpose, kindness, and compassion,” he added.
