The timeless love song launched 2Face into international fame, earning him major awards such as BET, MTV Europe, and MOBO, making him one of Africa’s most celebrated artists.
However, the song’s success has been trailed by long-standing controversy following claims by his former bandmate, Blackface, that he was not credited properly for his contribution.

2Face has since clarified that African Queen was a joint effort during their Plantashun Boiz days but denied any wrongdoing.
Despite the disputes, the song remains an Afrobeats anthem. In August 2025, Billboard named it the “greatest Afrobeats song of all time.”
2Face said he remains thankful for its legacy, acknowledging both its blessings and burdens.
