Their release was confirmed on Sunday in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaiye. The victims were abducted during an attack on the church last week.
According to the statement, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq credited the rescue to intensive efforts by security agencies and the direct intervention of President Bola Tinubu. Although details of where and how the victims were freed were not immediately disclosed, the government maintained that coordinated security operations made the breakthrough possible.
The statement quoted the governor as saying, “After many days of hard work by security forces and government representatives, HE AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is excited to announce the freedom of 38 persons who were recently abducted in an attack on Christ Apostolic Church Eruku, Ekiti LGA, Kwara State.”
It continued, “The Governor says this is wholly due to the hands-on approach of President Bola Tinubu, who has personally led the efforts to free the abductees. The abductees were freed today, November 23. The Governor is immensely grateful to President Bola Tinubu for his direct initiative that made this happen.”
Governor AbdulRazaq also revealed that the President cancelled his planned trip to the G20 meeting in South Africa to focus on the security breaches in Kwara and Kebbi States. He added that the President ordered increased security deployment to the state as part of measures to ensure safety.

He also commended the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services, the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Intelligence Agency, and the Nigeria Police, which deployed four new tactical teams to Kwara State on presidential directive. The governor extended appreciation to religious groups, community leaders, and residents for their support during the period of uncertainty.
