Wanted Girlfriend Killer ‘Killaboi’ Arrested In Sierra Leone Months After Fleeing Nigeria
Eko Hot Blog reports that the police in Sierra Leone have arrested one Benjamin Nnanyereugo, nicknamed Killaboi, who allegedly killed his girlfriend, Augusta Osedion, better known as Austa.
The arrest comes weeks after the Lagos State Police Command declared Nnanyereugo wanted for the death of his girlfriend.
The police, in a statement, said he was suspected to have murdered the 21-year-old lady on July 13, 2023, in his home at Oral Estate in the Ajah area of the state.
The statement read in part, “Following the exhaustion of all available options to bring him in, he is declared wanted.”
On Saturday, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the suspect’s arrest.
“He was arrested by the Sierra Leone Police Force, and we are working on extraditing him to Nigeria,” Hundeyin told Punch.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Nnanyereugo was apprehended at a nightclub in Freetown, Sierra Leone, on Friday night.
After the alleged killing of his girlfriend, he fled to Sierra Leone where he reportedly spent over $25,000 to purchase a Sierra Leonean passport and change his identity.
He changed his name to Kanu Princeton Samuel but people familiar with the situation someone in Sierra Leone identified him through the photo circulated on social media by Austa’s family.
After the victim’s family was told of the suspect’s whereabouts, their lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, informed the Lagos Police Command which subsequently declared him wanted.
Nnanyereugo’s Sierra Leonean’s passport indicates that he has left Nigeria for more than two months. The passport was issued on July 28, 2023, only weeks after the alleged murder.
Meanwhile, Austa’s brother took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to reveal how he teamed up with Sierra Leone’s law enforcement agencies to trail and apprehend the suspended murderer.
He expressed hope that the Nigeria Police Force will fast-track the extradition process.
“I’ve spent the last week in Freetown, Sierra Leone. We were in contact with the Law Enforcement Agencies in Sierra Leone to set up ways to apprehend Ben. We knew where he slept, we knew where he ate, we trailed him until they were able apprehend him last night,” the victim’s brother wrote.
“I’ve looked for him everywhere, from Accra, to Abidjan, and luck brought him to my path in Freetown. Through the efforts of the Sierra Leonean authorities, we’ve finally been able to apprehend him. We hope the Nigerian Police force work fast to extradite him to face his crimes.”
