An elderly woman suffering from dementia who had gone missing for weeks was recently reunited with her family in a heartwarming reunion at the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development (MYSD).
Eko Hot Blog reports that the emotional event was facilitated by Commissioner Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende and Permanent Secretary Pharm Toyin Oke-Osayintolu.

The woman’s identity was discovered thanks to the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA), which deployed a Mobile Registration team to the Lagos State Rehabilitation Centre in Majidun, Ikorodu.
This action was prompted by LASRRA’s General Manager, Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola, who came across a social media post from MYSD seeking help in identifying the missing woman.
The woman was initially found by a Good Samaritan and later rescued by the Ministry.
The GM said, “The LASRRA team proceeded to collect the biometrics of the elderly woman (photograph and fingerprints).
After a thorough search, the woman’s information could not be found, which showed that she had not registered with LASRRA.
The Agency then took a step further by casting a wider net via the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) database. As a result, her identity and other information about her, which included her residence, was found and sent to the Ministry.
Adebiyi-Abiola stated that “It is pertinent to note that, if the woman’s identity was found in LASRRA’s database, it would have been easier to quickly reunite her with her family”.
According to her, the partnership LASRRA has with NIMC cannot be overemphasized.
The benefit of the inter-agency collaboration is evident in the swift action of both Agencies in trying to establish the identity of the elderly woman to return her safely to her family, adding that “This incident demonstrates why it is essential for every elderly citizen to be included in the LASRRA database”.
“Senior citizens, especially those with dementia or other memory-related conditions, can easily become disoriented or lost.
Registration in the LASRRA database serves as a vital tool for identification, offering peace of mind to families and communities.
When such unforeseen situations arise, having access to accurate records can make the difference between a prolonged search and a swift, safe reunion”, she submitted.
The LASRRA database contains vital information, such as addresses, contact numbers, and emergency contacts, which can be crucial in ensuring the quick location of individuals in distress. For families of elderly citizens, this registration is not just a matter of convenience, but a necessary step to safeguard the well-being of loved ones.
