The Lagos State Government is taking steps to stop environmental damage caused by mining activities and increase revenue from the sector. On Friday, January 17, 2025, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Mineral Resources, Engr. Abiola Olowu, met with haulage consultants at the Folarin Coker Hall, Alausa, Ikeja.
Ekohotblog gathers that Engr. Olowu stressed the importance of keeping Lagos clean and well-organized, in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision of making Lagos a megacity.

“This meeting is an important step to ensure mining activities do not harm our environment and to increase revenue that supports the growth of Lagos State,” he said.
He praised the consultants for their excellent work in 2024, where they surpassed the revenue target by 178%.
“Your performance last year was impressive. For 2025, your hard work will determine if your contracts are renewed,” Engr. Olowu told the stakeholders.

Mr. Abiodun Rabiu, who represented the Special Adviser on Taxation and Revenue, Mr. Abdul-Kabir Opeyemi Ogungbo, reminded the consultants of the need to pay their dues on time.
“The money collected is used to fund important projects in Lagos. We ask everyone to avoid defaulting and do what is right,” he said.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. Abiola Kosegbe, explained that the government would use technology to make things easier for stakeholders.
She announced the use of Google Forms, reference numbers, and electronic payment systems to improve operations.
