Eko Hot Blog reports that Ikuforiji made this known on Sunday in an interview on ARISE News Night, where he assured that the whole issue is under control, thanks to the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The ousted Obasa was removed on January 13, 2025 by 32 of the 40 lawmakers of the House. He was removed according to them, for infractions bordering on misappropriation of funds and abuse of Office.
However, Ikuforiji, who was Speaker of the House when Obasa was a floor member, said Nigerians need to familiarize themselves with the constitution.
He also said that Lagos has a strong political structure that won’t give room for any form of crisis because of the unity within the party.
“Let me explain something quickly. Lagos is more matured than other states thanks to our leader, who is now the president of the country. He has been in charge over the years to build a strong political structure that can withstand the test of time in Lagos. This issue of there being a crisis in the party, look, we all belong to the same political family. We are all children from the same father.
“We are lucky that the structure is strong. Our leader, who is the president of the country today, started this when he was the governor of Lagos State. You see that when he was governor, the legislature was completely free.

When other legislatures tried to be an infant to the governor, it was not so in Lagos. That is why the National Assembly only recently tried to empower the state legislature to have financial autonomy.
“The whole story that the governor (Sanwo-Olu) did this and that as per the issue on the ground is not true. The governor is not the type that we see every day because he’s a cool-headed person. He’s passionate about his duty and is taking Lagos to another level. He has done so well.”
Speaking further, Ikuforiji also revealed that the speaker is at the mercy of the members of the parliament and that with 32 of the 40-member votes, the speaker is gone.
“I mean, who says his rights are being infringed upon for whatever reason? He has the right to go to court. But in the case of the officers, the principals offices in the legislative arm of government, there is very little that the court can do about it.
You know, the constitution is very clear about it in the office of the Speaker or any other principal officers in the house; it is not one that outsiders, the non-members of the parliament, can do something about”.
“You are not elected in your constituencies to be speaker in the house; it is the members of the parliament that decide within themselves who will be the head of the parliament and deputy and who else will head the other principal officers. Any member of the house can be the speaker.
“That is why sometimes you see the house with very highly educated people, but you have a member who is not highly educated being elected as the head of the parliament of the house”.
“So just like the constitution decides who the speaker will be, the constitution also states that it can remove whoever is the head of the parliament or any other principal officers”.

” The speaker is at the mercy of its members. Let’s continue to remind ourselves that the constitution makes it clear that the removal is by the votes of the committee of the house.
With votes that are more than 32, the speaker is gone, and there is nothing anybody can do about it.”
