- Tinubu: El-Rufai Is Pained And Frustrated – Shehu Sani
- He accused El-Rufai of failing to reconcile APC factions.
- Sani said El-Rufai’s influence didn’t help Uba Sani’s victory.
Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has blamed former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, for the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s defeat in the 2023 presidential election.
Speaking on Hard Copy, a programme on Channels Television, on Friday, Sani accused El-Rufai of failing to deliver Kaduna for President Bola Tinubu despite his claims of supporting Tinubu’s emergence. He described El-Rufai as “disgruntled and pained” due to his recent criticism of the APC-led government.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Sani pointed out that under El-Rufai’s leadership, the APC lost all three senatorial seats in Kaduna to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He also noted that out of 14 House of Representatives seats in the state, PDP won nine, the Labour Party secured two, while APC managed to win only three.
“If Nasiru claims he delivered Kaduna for Tinubu, the figures say otherwise,” Sani said. “For the first time under him, APC lost all three senatorial seats. His refusal to reconcile with APC forces in Kaduna led to major losses.”
The former lawmaker also questioned El-Rufai’s influence in the gubernatorial race, arguing that his backing did not significantly boost Governor Uba Sani’s chances. He noted that PDP’s Isa Ashiru secured 719,000 votes, while Uba Sani won with 730,000 votes, a narrow margin of just 11,000.
“This was a man campaigning for Uba on one hand while publicly ridiculing him on the other,” Sani added.
He further criticised El-Rufai for rejecting mediation efforts to resolve APC’s internal crisis in Kaduna. According to him, several party leaders, including Aminu Masari, Segun Oni, Inua Abdulquadri, and John Oyegun, attempted to reconcile the warring factions, but El-Rufai refused all interventions.

Sani concluded that El-Rufai’s refusal to unite the party in Kaduna contributed to its poor performance in the 2023 elections.
