EKO HOT BLOG reports that the day had been widely anticipated by Fubara’s supporters as a moment of political redemption, following backchannel meetings in London and Lagos suggesting a return to constitutional order after the March 18 state of emergency declaration.
A source revealed that Tinubu was expected to announce the reinstatement, with a handover scheduled to follow in weeks, but the announcement never came.
Reports suggest Fubara’s early celebration triggered a reaction from Nyesom Wike’s camp, leading to a stall in the reinstatement. Sources claimed some undisclosed conditions had not been met.
In a separate development, Tony Okocha, a factional chairman of APC in Rivers, dismissed the idea that Fubara could find political refuge in the party, insisting that his “sins” remained and only genuine reconciliation with lawmakers could save him from impeachment.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, in a media interview, accused Fubara of abandoning reconciliation efforts. “He has the yam and the knife,” Wike said, implying Fubara was unwilling to take steps toward peace.
Meanwhile, photos of Fubara with President Tinubu during Sallah stirred speculation, but no official comment followed.

Vice Admiral Ibok-Etteh Ibas, the state’s Sole Administrator, has reportedly been instructed to conduct local government elections before September, as Tinubu nominated members for the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission and other bodies. Analysts believe this strategy strengthens Wike’s grip ahead of 2027.
With political tension growing, the delay in reinstating Fubara signals a turbulent road ahead.
