This update comes amid national outrage over the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination results, with only 38.32 percent of over 1.9 million candidates earning credits and above in five subjects, including English and Mathematics — the worst recorded performance in a decade.
Social media erupted with angry reactions, particularly over failures in English Language. Candidates blamed WAEC for the poor results, linking them to the delayed and chaotic conduct of the English paper, which many students wrote late at night under poor conditions.
One user, Mark Imohi, accused WAEC of mishandling the examination, citing widespread failures in English as a result of the paper being conducted as late as 8 p.m. in some centres. Another candidate, @_samad1, said students were rushed through the paper in dimly lit conditions, with less than half the allocated time.

Parents also raised concerns, questioning how students who scored distinctions in other subjects could fail English. Several posts demanded that WAEC regrade the English Language scripts, with some calling for a total recall of the 2025 results.
Despite widespread appeals and public pressure, WAEC has yet to provide further clarification or respond to the growing calls for a review of the results.
