EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking during the group’s stakeholders’ meeting at Universal Hotel, Independence Layout, Enugu, former APC state chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, dismissed speculations that suspended state chairman, Ugo Agbala, or Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, could block the governor’s entry.
“We are aware of rumours that Governor Mbah may join the APC, but neither Agbala nor Nnaji has the power to stop him. Agbala has been suspended by his ward and barred by a court order from parading himself as chairman, while the minister is not in a position to speak for the APC; he is simply a member of the Federal Executive Council,” Nwoye stated.
He described the Progressive Group as a coalition of APC members, apolitical individuals, and progressive-minded politicians from other parties committed to the development of Enugu and Nigeria.

Nwoye recalled President Bola Tinubu’s February 4 visit to Enugu, where he urged political leaders to support Governor Mbah regardless of party affiliation. “One of our resolutions is to receive the governor into the APC if he chooses to join and to back his re-election bid in 2027, in line with the President’s directive,” he said.
Commending President Tinubu for approving a Federal University of Agriculture in Enugu and appointing an indigene as Chief of Naval Staff, Nwoye said the state would reciprocate by supporting Tinubu’s 2027 re-election. He also praised Governor Mbah’s leadership and urged him to sustain his inclusive governance style.
