Eko Hot Blog reports that speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Friday, Luckyman Egila, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, described the ADC as the “beautiful bride” of Rivers politics, revealing that several high-profile political figures have officially joined the party.

“We are a moving train and politically, no one can stop the ADC from clinching any seat we set our eyes on in Rivers State or across Nigeria,” Egila declared confidently.
Among those who have pitched their tents with the ADC are two former governors—Rotimi Amaechi and Celestine Omehia, as well as former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus. The party has also welcomed Senators Lee Maeba and Andrew Uchendu, with Uchendu currently serving as the ADC’s Vice Chairman for the South-South zone.

Egila emphasized that these defections are not mere alliances of convenience but formal memberships.
“They are not just associates of the party. These leaders have completed their registration processes and have been issued ADC membership cards,” he stated.
Other prominent figures now in the ADC’s fold include former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Austin Okpara, and former Minister of Transport, Dr Abiye Sekibo, both of whom command significant political influence in the state.
Egila expressed optimism that the party’s growing appeal will attract even more political actors from across the divide in the coming weeks.
“These are not lightweights. These are influential leaders you cannot ignore in any political calculus in Rivers. More are on their way to joining us,” he said.
He further highlighted that the ADC’s rising profile is not a fluke, noting that the party had already laid strong political structures across all 23 local government areas and communities in Rivers State, long before the latest wave of interest.
“We didn’t just emerge with the coalition. We contested in the 2023 elections, and Rivers people know who we are. Our support base has continued to expand steadily,” he added.
On the issue of internal unity, Egila dismissed any speculation of factionalism or discord within the party.
“The African Democratic Congress remains united. There is no internal crisis. We are built on integrity, and we uphold discipline and mutual respect within our ranks.”
As the political atmosphere in Rivers State begins to heat up ahead of the next electoral cycle, the ADC appears to be positioning itself as a serious contender, leveraging its fast-expanding base and the growing presence of political bigwigs within its camp.
