EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Martin Amaewhule, is expected to deliberate on key legislative issues that were left pending during the six-month emergency rule. According to information obtained on Wednesday, at least 27 lawmakers loyal to the Speaker have already returned to Port Harcourt ahead of the resumption.
It was further gathered that the lawmakers had been lodging at the residential complex for several days in preparation for Thursday’s plenary. Sources within the Assembly said their immediate focus would be on stabilising the legislative arm and addressing matters relating to governance and budgetary allocations that stalled during the emergency period.
The state had been under the direct control of a Sole Administrator following the emergency proclamation in March, which suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the Assembly. With Tinubu’s announcement on Wednesday restoring democratic governance, all affected officials have now returned to office.
