EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Olugoba of Igoba Community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba John Adinlewa, has escaped an assassination attempt after armed hoodlums invaded his palace during a cultural festival.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants, who stormed the area in a commando-style operation, were armed with guns, knives, charms, and other dangerous weapons.
They reportedly attacked the monarch, his wife, and several residents, leaving many injured and destroying properties worth millions of naira.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said ten suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack.
He explained that while the royal father narrowly escaped unhurt, one of his chiefs, Mrs Ogunoye Oluomo, sustained severe injuries and was robbed of her belongings during the assault.
Ayanlade revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, swiftly deployed tactical teams to the community after receiving a distress call.
The team, led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, apprehended the suspects who have reportedly confessed to their roles in the attack.
Items recovered from the suspects included two locally made pistols, a single-barrel gun, live ammunition, knives, machetes, and charms. The police said investigations are ongoing and that the suspects would soon be charged in court.
Ayanlade added that all injured victims are receiving medical attention and responding to treatment. He assured residents that peace has been restored to Igoba, with increased security patrols to forestall further disturbances.

The Police Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in Ondo State, warning that anyone involved in acts of violence or criminality would face the full weight of the law.
