EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking at a press conference on Saturday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat in Sokoto, community leaders led by Alhaji Adamu Kebbe said they are exhausted by repeated raids that have left homes destroyed and people dead.
They accused state and local authorities of failing to provide adequate protection and demanded urgent action.
The delegation urged federal authorities to grant communities the means to defend themselves and to release funds directly to local councils so they can equip and mobilise local security teams for rapid response.
They argued that current security measures are too slow to stop marauding gangs.
Sokoto has suffered a rise in violence from groups including the Lakurawas and factions linked to Bello Turji, with attacks reported across Isa, Sabon Birni and Kebbe.
Residents said the scale and frequency of assaults have eroded trust in official protection and left villages vulnerable.
Security analysts warn that arming locals carries risks but acknowledge the depth of public frustration.
For now, Kebbe communities say they will press the federal government for immediate support or consider measures to protect themselves if nothing changes.
