Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar announced on Saturday that fitness assessments are mandatory for career progression within the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Abubakar made the statement in Abuja during the NAF’s annual 10km Walk/Jog Exercise for 2025, an event designed to promote health, morale, and operational readiness among personnel.

He emphasized that every airman and airwoman must take physical fitness seriously, not just as a promotion requirement but as a personal responsibility toward their readiness for military service.

The Air Chief confirmed NAF is actively upgrading sporting facilities across its formations and plans to establish a Sports Control Board to drive comprehensive sports development across NAF units.
He also directed commanders to encourage local sporting event participation to promote positive civil-military relations.
National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman, Shehu Dikko, praised the NAF’s initiative, calling fitness a vital pillar of national strength and unity.

Dikko noted the program reflects visionary leadership that recognizes fitness as central to military readiness, citing recent victories by the NAF Handball and Football Teams as proof of the Service’s commitment to personnel development.
The 10km exercise saw personnel under 40 jog, while those above 40 walked. The winners in the male and female categories received awards for their performance.
