EKO HOT BLOG reports that the meeting, which took place at the Eko Hotel Signature Building, was convened by the Odole-Oodua, Sir Kessington Adebutu, as part of activities marking his birthday anniversary.
In a communiqué issued after the session, the monarchs jointly announced the creation of a Joint Council of Yoruba Unity, a body that will focus on promoting peace, preserving Yoruba culture, and driving socioeconomic development within the region.
“They reaffirmed their mutual respect and commitment to collaboration, stressing that greatness for the Yoruba race can only be achieved through dialogue, unity, and collective responsibility,” the statement from the Ooni’s palace noted.
The monarchs described the meeting as a defining moment in Yoruba history. “We are committed to promoting harmony among Yoruba sons and daughters and to upholding the sacred values of respect, cooperation, and brotherhood passed down by our ancestors,” the communiqué read.
The event was attended by prominent Yoruba leaders, traditional rulers, and cultural custodians, all of whom commended the renewed bond between the two thrones. Discussions at the session centered on strengthening inter-kingdom relations and encouraging other Yoruba monarchs to embrace cooperation and collective progress.
In their closing prayers, both monarchs sought divine guidance, peace, and prosperity for Yorubaland, Nigeria, and the African continent. The session ended with royal blessings and expressions of goodwill.

Speaking after the meeting, Sir Adebutu praised the historic reconciliation and unity between the Ooni and the Alaafin, describing it as “a milestone that would foster peace and progress among the Yoruba people.”
