The Yobe State Police Command has begun a manhunt for a death row inmate, Abba Hassan, who escaped from the Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Potiskum on October 31, 2025.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement issued in Damaturu on Saturday.

According to Abdulkarim, the fugitive, identified as Abba Hassan, hails from Maiduguri in Borno State and had been sentenced to death before his escape from custody.
He explained that the command had alerted other security agencies, transport operators, community leaders, and vigilante groups within Yobe and neighbouring states to be on the lookout for the escapee.

The police spokesman urged residents to remain vigilant and to report any information that could assist in the re-arrest of the fugitive to the nearest police station or correctional facility.
“Do not attempt to confront or apprehend him on your own. For your safety, immediately contact the nearest police station or call the emergency number 08038452982,” Abdulkarim warned.
He assured members of the public that efforts were ongoing to track down and re-arrest the escapee, emphasizing that public cooperation remained vital to ensuring community safety.
